John & I fell in love with Belize several years ago on a 5-day vacation, aboard our friends, Viki & Joe's catamaran, "Luna Sea". Our land adventures were filled with great food, culture and fun! We especially loved the beach and the ocean; swimming, snorkeling and relaxing in hammocks.
When the pandemic hit, like many, John and I re-evaluated our lives and retirement plans. We had recently married and blended our families after a time of great loss for me. So “living in the moment” and chasing our dreams became more important than ever.
The ocean has been calling my name since I was a child, spending spring breaks in Sanibel Island, FL and later in Marco Island, FL. John is a scuba diver and loves the laid back beach lifestyle. We decided to sell our home in Austin, TX and look at property in Belize.
We researched all the options in Belize. We liked the laid back vibe of Placencia and as an artist, I loved that it was rich with art and culture. John flew to Placencia in August of 2021. Originally we were interested in a boutique hotel in the village. We soon realized living at our hotel would not work for us. John looked at oceanfront properties for several days but nothing was “checking all the boxes”. Finally on his last day he said, “I’m done, I can’t look at another property.” On the morning of his flight home, I found another property, emailed our realtor and she enticed him with coffee, a ride to the airport, but with one caveat, they had to make one stop . . . and that stop turned into a new beginning, Bella Sway Belize . . . where bubbly meets bliss.
